No
matter what needs and goals of our fencers are, NGFC takes great
pride in the accomplishments of our fencers. The NGFC coaching
staff gives each student the attention they need to succeed.
Beginner
Level 1 Classes The students
the fundamentals of footwork, blade-work as well as the basic
theory and goals of fencing. The beginner class is held once per
week for one hour with no equipment required. The students are
given assignments and are expected to practice their footwork
and stance at least 3 times per week on their own. (Note:
fencers who wish to excel should practice more often. Fencers
should practice
their footwork as often as possible to achieve maximum results
and comprehension). “You’ll get as much out of fencing
as you put into fencing”.
Beginner
level 2 Classes
Upon completion of the 4 week level 1 class beginner
class, Students purchase a fencing mask, jacket, glove, and practice
foil where they start leaning how to “dry fence” (without
the aid of electric scoring). Instruction continues with more
advanced footwork and blade-work drills as well as bouting (fencing
with an opponent). Basic fencing strategy is also emphasized as
well. (Approximately 4 to 6 weeks).
Intermediate
Level 1 Classes Student fencers
are introduced to the various weapons (foil, Epee, and Saber)
(see just what is fencing) and are allowed
to pick the weapon of choice based on their interest and coaches
assessment of which weapon they would be best at. Fencers then
begin fencing using the electric scoring. Some fencer fence with
more than one weapon and sometime change weapons and sometimes
change their weapon of choice. Instruction is on-going and based
on the students level of comprehension based on the coaches assessment.
Intermediate
level 2 Classes Student fencers
can purchase electric fencing equipment and additional fencing
gear such as knickers (fencing pants), protective underarm garments
(required for electric fencing) as well as electric fencing weapons.
(Foil, Epee, & Saber). The students continue to learn bouting
strategies and tactics as well as more complex blade-work. Students
may also opt to take private one on one lessons with the NGFC
coaching staff. (note all classes are held in a group setting
but should consider taking private lessons in order to maximize
the training offered at NGFC). Fencers are also encouraged to
start competing in local tournaments should they desire to fence
beyond a recreational level.
Advanced
Level Classes Student fencers
are given more advanced drills with instruction on going where
they learn more advanced competition strategy and tactics.
